I'm having a colonoscopy tomorrow.  YIPPEE!  Well, that's not really how I feel about it, except that I'm very glad that they now have colonoscopies and that they are so accurate, etc.  Got a lemon, make lemonade, right?

So the day before your colonoscopy you must "fast."  I don't know why they call it that - it's been one of the slowest days of my life.  I got up and had coffee - without the milk I usually add to it.  No diary, you see.  Then I had some ice water.  MMMM, good, cold ice water.  I gave myself a real treat - I had an "Ensure" for "breakfast."  Keep in mind, I have 2 children that need breakfast made for them and have a need to munch throughout the day as well.  Then there's lunch and dinner.  My husband is actually taking the girls out for dinner, thank goodness.

The point of this little peak into my personal bliss today is that I have "caught" myself on numerous (too numerous to count) occassions, mindlessly popping something into my mouth.  Just cleaning up after my daughter's are finished with breakfast.  Or, walking by the fruit bowl and grabbing some cherries.  Those pesky hard boiled eggs I keep handy for snacks actually reached out for me when I was putting something back in the refridgerator!  Point being - unconscious eating apparently runs rampant in my daily life.  I hadn't really know how much or how automatically I was grazing.  Maybe this is true for you - and your girls - as well.  A lesson to be learned from this is to truly pay attention to what you're putting in your mouth.  Maybe a one day fast would work for you.  How about a food journal - but you have to be honest!  This has been an eye-opening (and stomach gurgling) experience for me.  It might help to define some areas that you need work on as well.

Hope this helps someone out there --

Kathy
